Starbucks Names New Teavana and Canada Division Leaders

Starbucks has named new leaders for two key positions at Starbucks Canada and Teavana as it continues to advance its global growth and innovation agenda.

Annie Young-Scrivner, Starbucks Canada executive vice president and president has been named executive vice president and president for Teavana. Meanwhile, Andy Mack, Teavana founder and CEO, who helped integrate Teavana with Starbucks after the acquisition, is retiring.

“Tea is the second most-consumed beverage in the world and represents a sizable opportunity for Starbucks as we continue to grow around the world,” said Cliff Burrows, group president, U.S., Americas and Teavana. “We are grateful for Andy’s leadership establishing Teavana as a world-class leader responsible for bringing premium tea to millions of customers over the past 17 years. Under Annie’s leadership, we plan to do for tea what we did for coffee by significantly expanding the availability of new and innovative Teavana products in Starbucks and Teavana retail stores and through other channels.”

The second appointment is Rossann Williams, who is now senior vice president and president for Starbucks Canada. Her previous role was senior vice president of partner resources for Starbucks.

“Starbucks Canada is our largest international market and an important contributor to our Americas growth strategy. Rossann is an experienced Starbucks executive and a true ambassador for our culture, values and guiding principles,” Burrows added. “Her experience is perfectly suited to the opportunities we see in the Canada market for years to come.”

With more than 350 stores in the U.S. and Canada, including the recent successful opening of Teavana Fine Teas and Tea Bar locations in New York and Seattle, Teavana is positioned to capture market share within the rapidly growing $90 billion global hot and iced tea market, according to Starbucks.

Young-Scrivner most recently led Starbucks Canada’s record fiscal 2013 performance. Prior to her role leading Canada, she served for three years as Starbucks global chief marketing officer and president of Tazo Tea. Before joining Starbucks in 2009, she had a successful 20-year career at PepsiCo. Young-Scrivner will continue to report to Burrows in her new role.

Since opening its first store in Vancouver, B.C., in 1987, Canada has grown to nearly 1,400 stores and is Starbucks’ largest market outside the U.S. Over the last nine years, Williams has held numerous leadership roles both internationally and within Starbucks’ U.S. business. Prior to her current partner resources role leading the company’s talent acquisition, management and diversity, she served as division senior vice president of Starbucks Sunbelt region in the U.S. Williams also lived and worked in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, for three years as a key executive on Starbucks’ Europe, Middle East and Africa regional leadership team. Prior to that, she held a number of executive roles in Starbucks’ retail operations. She will also report to Burrows.
