Southern Season Goes Old-School with In-Store Soda Fountain

As part of an ongoing project of renovations, Southern Season, a specialty retailer in Chapel Hill, N.C., recently opened an ice cream parlor inside the store.

The parlor was designed with a nod to the old-fashioned soda fountains of the 1950s and includes nostalgic features such as marble countertops and tall stools. The menu offers a range of classic concoctions, including ice cream floats, sundaes and egg creams.

Customers can enjoy ice cream by the scoop with gourmet toppings such as Chapel Hill Toffee, Red Light Sea Salt Caramel or Moravian Mint Chocolate Cookies.

Alison Kelly, Southern Season’s ice cream parlor coordinator, said, “A treat for kids and adults alike, the ice cream parlor is a whimsical addition to Southern Season and the perfect spot to spend time catching up over everyone’s favorite dessert.”

Also continuing the store’s long-standing tradition of supporting local vendors, the ice cream parlor features Lumpy’s Ice Cream, which is made in nearby Wake Forest, N.C.

The ice cream parlor joins other recent renovation projects inside Southern Season designed to make the shopping experience more interactive. In March, Southern Season completed a kitchen showroom; and it added a coffee and tea bar in May.

Southern Season is an award-winning 60,000-square-foot gourmet food emporium that has been a fixture in Chapel Hill since 1975.
