Six Industry Leaders Honored at Winter Fancy Food Show

Six industry executives and entrepreneurs received Leadership Awards from the Specialty Food Association (SFA) at the third annual event hosted at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco Sunday.

The awards honor members who have gone “above and beyond” in advancing food standards in society by creating social, economic and environmental impact through innovation and vision.

Their achievements range from employing women in Kenya, to bringing Halal foods to the American mainstream, to taking on U.S. agencies to change import laws, according to an SFA statement.

This year’s winners for business leadership are Adnan Durrani of Saffron Road and David Gremmels of Rogue Creamery. Ahmed and Reem Rahim of Numi Organic Tea, and Sara Holby of Ajiri Tea won for citizenship. Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and James May of Wisdom Natural Brands were recognized for vision.

“The specialty food industry is fueled by passionate entrepreneurs who seek to make a difference through the products they bring to market. These leaders are making an even greater impact by pioneering new business practices, empowering workers and taking risks,” said Ann Daw, SFA president.

The judges included David Gagnon of the Organic Trade Association, John Raiche of UNFI, Donna Daniels of Social Venture Network, Rory Treats of City Harvest and Errol Schweizer of Whole Foods Market.
