Perfect Company Acquires Orange Chef’s Prep Pad Related IP

Perfect Company, a leading developer of connected kitchen products, acquired The Orange Chef ‘s Prep Pad™ related IP to include its patented technology and app.  While the Prep Pad, an iOS enabled Bluetooth food scale, will be discontinued, Orange Chef’s technology will be incorporated into future Perfect smart scale and recipe app systems. Perfect Company will, however, provide continued customer service support for existing Prep Pad owners.

“After being acquired by Yummly, there wasn’t a home for our Prep Pad product,” said Santiago Merea, founder and former CEO, The Orange Chef. “We felt it was important not to abandon our users and to find the best home for the product going forward. Perfect Company is the clear leader in this category and Orange Chef believes it is the ‘perfect’ home for the Prep Pad product and technology.”

Perfect Company entered the health and nutrition space in 2016 with the launch of its Perfect Blend product, which works with any blender to create a seamless end-to-end blending experience at home, producing smoothies, soups, dips and more. The Perfect Blend app offers meal-planning tools, portions individual servings to the user's desired number of calories, and even sends calorie and other nutritional data to popular fitness apps via Apple Health or Google Fit. A partnership with Vitamix was announced earlier this year for a custom Vitamix version of Perfect Blend.

Perfect Blend is the latest in the series of Perfect smart scale and recipe app systems that utilize Perfect Company’s own patented IoT technology, allowing for on-screen real-time measuring of ingredients within easy-to-follow digital recipes. Perfect Bake, which offers savory dishes and sweet treats, was introduced in 2014, and Perfect Drink, which makes the perfect cocktails and mocktails, was introduced in 2013.  Perfect Kitchen PRO, a special combo pack that is compatible with the entire suite of Perfect recipe apps, was launched exclusively with Sur La Table earlier this year.

Prep Pad, the iOS enabled Bluetooth food scale, was introduced in February 2014.  Prep Pad provides real-time nutritional information for all raw ingredients and scannable food items. The food scale allows users to visually obtain the full macro and micro-nutritional profiles of ingredients and meals as they create them, while saving to a personal profile. Yummly acquired The Orange Chef Company in 2015, but did not acquire the Prep Pad’s IP. Perfect Company has acquired the Prep Pad’s IP from Santiago Merea.
