Parmigiano Reggiano Night Nov. 30 – The Italian Dinner Party Goes Global

Expanding upon a tradition begun in 2012 with 25,000 Italian participants, the Consorzio Parmigiano Reggiano is inviting cheese lovers around the world to a global dinner party Nov. 30. Through social media, participants can sign up to host a party, select recipes featuring Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, and invite friends and family to share their event with fans around the world.

This year’s theme is SmartCooking – an innovative culinary trend with historic roots. Inspired by traditional culinary practices, SmartCooking encourages cooks to reduce waste, rediscover forgotten ingredients and reuse leftovers.

With Parmigiano Reggiano Night falling just two days after Thanksgiving, participants are encouraged to make recipes using Parmigiano Reggiano combined with Thanksgiving leftovers and post them to the Parmigiano Reggiano Facebook page.

“This is a great event to talk about Parmigiano Reggiano, its distinctiveness, its ability to enhance the simplest dishes, and bring people together,” explained the Consorzio’s director, Riccardo Deserti. “Parmigiano Reggiano is loved the world over, from Beijing to Barcelona, St. Louis to São Luis, and from Tokyo to Toronto. It was the first cheese to leave its area of origin in the 13th century. Ever since, it has been at home on global tables and incorporated into cuisines all over the world.”

Thanks to social media, these global tables and cuisines can now be united by Parmigiano Reggiano Night, an opportunity for the world to sit down together and enjoy a meal. And once the meal is over and the photos shared, all registered participants will receive a special commemorative Parmigiano Reggiano gift.
