Northern Divine Caviar Achieves Organic Certification

Northern Divine caviar, in addition to being rated among the top five sustainable caviars in the world, is now certified organic.

Target Marine Hatcheries, producer of Northern Divine white sturgeon, is certified by Global Trust as organic under the Canadian Organic Aquaculture Standards. This organic certification makes Northern Divine, based in Sechelt, British Columbia, Canada, the first certified organic caviar produced in North America.

Target Marine Hatcheries has been working for more than a decade to attain organic certification. “After years of commitment to organic farming practices, we are proud to have become certified organic, giving a new ecological choice to the astute caviar consumer,” said Justin Henry, general manager of Target Marine Hatcheries.

The principles of organic farming are to protect the environment, maintain long-term biological stability, recycle materials and resources, provide attentive care to the animals, and maintain organic integrity of the products.

Target Marine Hatcheries has been raising white sturgeon since 1999. The company’s facilities are located on 60 acres of pristine wilderness in the small town of Sechelt known as the “land between two waters” on Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. The sturgeon are raised from tiny eggs to the harvest age of 12 or more years, weighing up to 300 pounds.
