Murray’s Celebrates Reopening of Grand Central Terminal Shop

Just in time to kick off American Cheese Month, Murray’s Cheese is celebrating the newly completed remodel of its shop in Grand Central Market.

To celebrate a brand new look, owner Rob Kaufelt will cut into a grand layer cake made of Murray’s favorite food – cheese – in a ceremony on Oct. 1.  Other grand opening events will continue throughout Cheese Month.

“What better time than American Cheese Month to celebrate more great cheese?” asked Kaufelt.

The  new Grand Central shop features warm woods, less clutter and an expanded selection of goodies – more than100 new items – including many new cheeses, plus artisanally made prosciutto and salami, and condiments.

In the past, Murray’s cheesemongers stood on a platform to speak with a customer over the high top of the deli-style cheese case. A new, shorter European-style case will make conversation (and sampling) much easier.

During the event, shoppers will discover cheeses from regional producers from across the United States, some of them available for a limited time. “Meet the Maker” Tastings will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when American cheesemakers will be on hand to conduct tastings. Select Murray’s fabulous prepared foods will be tasted Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are even free (temporary) tattoos featuring the word “cheese” inscribed in multiple languages.
