Mifroma Allows Buyers to Adopt-an-Alp

Transhumance is a very important tradition in Switzerland. For many centuries farmers, together with their animals, have been moving between places in accordance with the seasons. During summers on the alp they have been crafting cheeses that by now are scientifically proven to be healthier and purer than any other types.

While the idea of spending a summer high up on a mountain with some animals and not much more might sound cozy to most, life away from civilization is everything else than easy. Some huts don’t have running water, some no electricity. Days on the alp are long, labor intense, risky at times, and marked by lacks and needs more than by anything else.

It comes to no surprise that the number of families still taking the burden of transhumance has been constantly decreasing in our new millennium. The struggles and efforts of a summer on the alp are aplenty, and the pay is rather poor.

Adopt-an-Alp is a program that supports those farmers who are brave enough to ignore the trends and keep the tradition alive. Because only by being able to sell the precious cheeses they produce throughout the summer the farmers can make a living – and justify to return to the alp year after year.

No matter if you work with cheese professionally or simply are a lover of great cheeses, it’s easy to partake in Adopt-an-Alp and show your active support for the farmers.

Adopt-an-Alp by Quality Cheese is officially supported and promoted by Schweizerischer Alpwirtschaftlicher Verband (SAV), the Swiss governmental agency in charge of the protection and marketing of Alp products, and its subsidiary Alpkäse.ch. All cheeses belonging to Adopt-an-Alp are exclusively imported through Mifroma USA as part of the new Mifroma Premium line and distributed by Atalanta Corp.

How to Adopt an Alp

It’s easy. Go to our contact page or call your sales contact at Mifromaor Atalanta. Either way you will get all the information and pricing and you can adopt your preferred Alp. There is a minimum of 10 wheels per order (4 wheels for the large Buochserhorn, Bleiki Sbrinz and Gruyère Alpage). If an Alp offers more than one cheese – like most do – you can combine them.

Store owners, associates, sales staff and chefs: Have a look at our map and check out the profiles of the various alps and families who live and work on them. Choose your favorite one and be excited to get ten wheels (four in the case of large format cheeses) into your establishment at the end of alp season, just in time for the Holidays.

Go on www.adopt-an-alp.com regularly as we will be sending updates, blog posts and photographs from and on all A  lps and folks throughout the entire summer. – And make sure to share the news with your customers so that they all want to be the first ones in your store on the day those alp delicacies arrive.
