Lucky’s Market Enters Michigan With Ann Arbor Location

Lucky’s Market will open its first natural and organic grocery store in Michigan on Feb. 25 in the Burns Park neighborhood of Ann Arbor.

Opening-day activities include a bacon-cutting ceremony and a presentation of more than $40,000 of donation support to local nonprofit organizations such as The Family Learning Institute’s Brain Boot Camp; Dawn Farm; Ozone House’s WorkZone Program and Food Gatherers’ Community Kitchen Job Training Program.

The Ann Arbor store is the ninth store nationwide for Lucky’s Market, a Boulder, Colo.-based retailer that has stores in Gainesville, Fla., Columbia, Mo., Ellisville, Mo., Billings, Mont., Louisville, Ky., Longmont, Colo., Columbus, Ohio, as well as its original store in Boulder.

Other special events planned around the store’s opening include a health fair, local food fair, taste of Lucky’s Market and 5 Percent Days, with 5 percent of net sales going to select local schools.

“We are thrilled to open our first Lucky’s Market in Michigan and help make natural, organic and specialty foods more accessible and affordable to more people,” said Bo Sharon, who founded Lucky’s Market with his wife, Trish. “Not only are we committed to providing top-quality food, we are also deeply committed to supporting our local communities through various giving programs, and we look forward to being a positive part of the Ann Arbor community.”

The Ann Arbor store will be lead by Jim Mick, a Michigan native who brings almost 30 years of experience in the grocery industry. “I’m proud to lead the first Lucky’s Market in Michigan and provide customers with top-quality foods at affordable prices while also delighting our customers with fantastic customer service,” said Mick. “Lucky’s Market has a passion for local farmers and producers, and the Ann Arbor store team includes veteran cheesemongers and restaurant chefs. With our house-cured bacon and house-made sausages, and hundreds of specialty items, the new Lucky’s Market will be a great addition to the Burns Park neighborhood.”

Lucky’s Market Ann Arbor shoppers will find an extensive selection of organic, specialty and gluten-free items at the store, as well as house-made deli items, in-house cured and smoked bacon, local produce, fresh meats and seafood, and a bakery. The store will also include a fresh juice bar; coffee bar; beer, wine and spirits section; salad bar; and community room. Free wellness activities and store “walkabouts” (for gluten-free and other food categories) are other features that have made Lucky’s Market a favorite with shoppers since 2003.

The Ann Arbor store, which is about 25,000 square feet, will employ approximately 150 people.
