Las Vegas Market Issues Housewares Design Awards

Las Vegas Market recognized and celebrated the winners of the 12th Housewares Design Awards, for the first time hosting a two-hour awards gala in connection with its Winter Market.

From 60 finalists, 12 were named Best in Category winners and three were awarded Best of the Best distinctions, with gold going to Electrolux for the Masterpiece Food Processor (shown here), silver to iRobot for the Roomba 960 and bronze to Oxo for the Good Grips Hand-Held Spiralizer. Additionally, the inaugural Design Influencer of the Year was presented to Mo Mullen, director of business development for West Elm LOCAL.

“Las Vegas Market salutes these dynamic producers for their contributions to the vitality and evolution of the housewares category,” said Dorothy Belshaw, president of gift leasing and chief marketing officer, International Market Centers. “We continue to see steady increases in gourmet housewares exhibitors and retailer attendance and hosting the Housewares Design Awards supports and extends growth in this important industry segment. Las Vegas Market identified the gourmet category as one of its strategic building blocks and launched the gourmet housewares presentation on C11 in summer 2015. Since that time, the floor has rapidly expanded, with expected sold-out status to by the end of 2017.”

Five product finalists in each of 12 core awards categories were selected from more than 250 entries by an independent panel of design and merchandising experts. Award criteria were appropriate aesthetics; innovative materials and technology; user benefits (i.e., performance, comfort, ease of use, safety); and marketability. Products judged had to have been made available to consumers for the first time between Oct. 1, 2015 and Sept. 30, 2016.
