Kronos Foods Strikes Licensing Deal for Pomegranate Arils

Capitalizing on the continued growth and popularity of antioxidant super-fruit pomegranates, Kronos Foods and Meyer Family Farms signed a licensing agreement for Kronos to market, sell and distribute frozen pomegranate arils.

The agreement expands the availability of nutrient-dense pomegranate arils, now typically available only seasonally, to a year-round basis for sale at retail and use by foodservice professionals and the culinary community. As part of the agreement, Kronos will sell organic and non-organic arils to supermarkets, specialty grocers, club and foodservice customers in the United States under the Perfect Gems brand name, as well as under private labels for retailers interested in marketing the fruit to consumers.

“There is a large and untapped year-round demand for frozen pomegranate arils and pomegranate arils blended with other fruits,” said Howard Eirinberg, chief executive officer of Kronos Foods. “Our team is proud to work with Meyer Family Farms and expand opportunities for retailers and foodservice professionals looking to build their business through this trendy frozen super-fruit.”

According to industry data, the pomegranate product marketplace has grown by more than 375 percent in the past two years. Along with blueberries and acai, pomegranates are one of the top antioxidant fruits, heralded for their oxygen radical absorbance capacity.

Founded in 1975, Kronos is a premier manufacturer of specialty meats, breads, dairy, fruits and other premium Mediterranean foods.
