Henri Willig Cheese Wins Two International Cheese Awards

Cheesemaker Henri Willig, a specialty producer from Holland, won both gold and silver awards during the International Cheese Awards, July 24-25, in Nantwich, England.

The panel for the annual cheese contest consisted of 156 judges and more than 3,900 cheese entries from 27 countries, all divided over several categories.

Henri Willig’s organic cow cheese with green pesto received a gold award and the organic goat cheese with fenugreek won a silver award. With these awards, Henri Willig Cheese dominated the category of best organic cheese, outside of England. The company said the awards come as a result of high-quality milk from Dutch organic farmers and the expertise and commitment of its cheesemakers.

The jury described the organic cow cheese with green pesto as soft, herby, fresh and beautifully colored. The organic goat cheese with fenugreek won a silver award for its unique combination of flavors from mild, creamy goat cheese and the delicate, nutty taste of fenugreek.

The award-winning organic cheeses are now available in retail channels under the Polderkaas Biologisch brand and under the Hooidammer brand in health food stores.
