In a move that promises to increase sales and broaden distribution of its classic Japanese-made Global knives, Master Cutlery has named Scanpan USA Inc. its exclusive distributor for the United States.
Master Cutlery holds the worldwide rights for Yoshikin Global Knives. Los Angeles-based Scanpan will distribute the signature classic Global knives as well as market the Mino Sharp group of cutlery sharpeners and the more traditional Bunmei Japanese knives.
“Changes in the way we distribute and serve our customers need to be made as we prepare to launch our latest Global addition – Global SAI,” said Mino Tsuchida, president of Master Cutlery.
Global SAI is the next generation of Global innovation and will feature Cromova 18 SANSO steel consisting of three-ply blade material with Cromova 18 at the center core, which is then sandwiched on either side by a softer SUS-410 stainless steel. The center blade boasts a Rockwell hardness of 58-59 degrees.
To set the design as distinctive and functional, Yoshikin’s head designer, Komin Yamada, called upon his 25 years of knife craftsmanship “to deliver a stunning new design that incorporates an ergonomic thumb rest to ease the cutting motion along with a hammered finish known as Tsuchime on the blades,” the company said in a statement. Global SAI will be available by the end of this year.
