Cook’s Warehouse Founder Wins ICON Award

Mary S. Moore, founder of the Cook’s Warehouse, has won the 2013 ICON Award for Individual Career Accomplishment.

The ICON Awards is a program founded and staged by AmericasMart Atlanta, and sponsored exclusively by the Gift & Home Trade Association and Sandow Media. The annual awards are the centerpiece event of the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.

The Cook’s Warehouse is one of greater Atlanta’s premier gourmet cookware retailers with four stores in the Midtown, Decatur and Brookhaven areas in the city, and the East Cobb County area of the suburbs. It offers more than 15,000 products for the kitchen and operates the largest avocational cooking school in the Southeast, conducting more than 800 classes yearly, often taught by local chefs, and has a large Web-based delivery-by-post site.

Owned and operated by Moore, the chain also retails high-end appliances, conducts private cooking classes for unique celebrations and corporate events, and is a pro-bono partner with virtually every major cooking event and gourmet association in Atlanta.

Moore opened the first Cook’s Warehouse location in 1995 and the second, shared with Sherlock’s Wine Merchant, in 2002, a first-of-its-kind partnership in the Atlanta area. In 2005, in partnership with Doug Bryant, owner of Sherlock’s Wine Merchant, and Craig Maske, general manager of Sherlock’s Wine Merchant, Moore opened the third retail location in downtown Decatur. In 2011, she opened the fourth store in Marietta, Ga.

Moore has received numerous awards and has been recognized as a successful businesswoman and leader in the culinary industry. She is an active member of many organizations, including Les Dames d’Escoffier International, of which she is the immediate past president; Carter Center Board of Councilors; a board member of the Atlanta Community Food Bank; and a member of the Woodward Academy Governing Board.
