Two companies with very modern design sensibilities joined forces recently to demonstrate ideas for setting a memorable holiday table. Chilewich founder Sandy Chilewich showed how her stylish woven textiles combine with wares from Alessi, a maker of almost futuristic-looking tableware, to create what she called the “ultimate in modern table dressing.”
When presented with the opportunity to work with Chilewich, Paolo Cravedi, managing director of Alessi USA, was enthused. “We admire Chilewich and it’s a pleasure and honor to collaborate with Sandy and her company,” he said. “This is a wonderful example of like-minded brands that complement each other and create the perfect synergy and partnership.”
Sandy was equally excited about the opportunity to work with Alessi: “The chance to create tablescapes by combining Alessi tabletop with my textiles is the ultimate in modern table dressing for me. Presentation is as important (almost) as the food and expresses the tone of the simplest to the grandest occasion.”
The event was held Oct. 10 at Alessi Soho, located on Greene Street in New York. In addition to the demonstration and refreshments, guests were offered a chance to enter for prizes to help set the perfect table. One lucky Grand Prize-winner took away two Chilewich Silver Metallic Lace placemats and matching table runner (retail value: $160), along with two Sarrià small white round baskets and one large Port Basket in white designed by Lluís Clotet from Alessi (retail value: $265). Two second-place winners won six Gold Metallic Lace placemats with a matching table runner from Chilewich (retail value: $280); and another won a La Stanza dello Scirocco Centerpiece in stainless steel designed by Mario Trimarchi from Alessi (retail value: $275).
