CBA Announces Key Updates from Mid-Year Committees in Action Meeting

The Cookware and Bakeware Alliance (CBA) held its Mid-Year Committees in Action Update meeting on July 17, 2024, providing significant insights and updates across it’s various committees. The meeting highlighted ongoing initiatives and future plans aimed at advancing the industry's standards, sustainability efforts, and legislative engagement.

Here are a summary of what each committee reported.

Engagement Committee: The Engagement Committee received valuable feedback from the spring committee meeting, focusing on the power of these meetings for networking, speaker feedback, and virtual engagement. The upcoming fall member meeting in Chicago will feature notable speakers including Tom Lee of BCLP, Catalina Flores and Nick Stene of Euromonitor, and Vanessa Peterson of PPG. Committee sessions will be open to all attendees.

Expertise Committee: Collaborating with third-party organizations, the Expertise Committee is working to gather relevant industry statistics. They plan to present their findings to the board, alongside a trends update and the announcement of the color of the year.

Education Committee: The Education Committee is developing an online training program for the retail industry, seeking input from retailers to tailor the program effectively.

Lead & Cadmium Subcommittee: Focused on ensuring product safety and compliance, this subcommittee continues to compile data, review regulatory requirements, and develop best practices.

Engineering Standards Subcommittee: Efforts are underway to review and compile notes and resolutions, with a goal to issue an updated version by 2025. Nonstick chapters currently under review and new chapter in development on Porcelain & Ceramic Bakeware.

Sustainability Subcommittee: Aiming to initiate a pilot program for the take-back and recycling of cookware and bakeware, the subcommittee has had a successful trial with Close the Loop and is exploring further partnership options.

PFAS Subcommittee: Updates were provided on recent legislative changes in Maine and Colorado, as well as new laws in Connecticut, Vermont, and Rhode Island related to PFAS in cookware. The subcommittee is also examining potential federal reporting exemptions for PFAS on cookware surfaces.

Tom Lee from BCLP provided a brief legislative update, emphasizing the importance of staying informed on emerging legislative developments.

The upcoming fall member meeting in Chicago is scheduled for September 25 and 26. Only CBA members can participate in the committees and the fall Committees in Action meeting.
